I have a bay window in the Guest room (AKA Miss Precious' Room) that I have been debating what, what, WHAT should I do with it?! Curtains? Roman Shades? Hmmm, Roman shades?
This is what my window looked like ...
When we bought our home it had these cell shades. They did not cover the top window area and the problem is that when the sun starts to set in the west ... it stays light in this room far too long. (In the summer it doesn't get dark until 10 PM. For an early bedtime, it is too bright! I installed the Valance at the top which helped, but didn't get the desired darkness.
You can read about Valances ... {here}
Lovely picture of the shades down ... love the rip? Classy! LOL
Easy to take down all the blinds, remove all the hardware, and fill in the holes ...
I wish I had a picture of what happened next! I thought I could leave the Valance up while I installed the blinds. Umm, no. I knocked them off with my head and since it is a bay window style rod ... off it came and ... disconnected! Ugh!!! I was up to my neck in a jig saw puzzle of rods and valance. I chose to figure out the mess later ... when Mr. Man could help me!
My mess is on the floor and bed ... notice my great photography and how I was able to keep it out of the picture? LOL Ok., let's get to installing those blinds! I went to Menard's to see about getting those Roman shades I was thinking about doing. There weren't any that I was crazy about, but wait! I love the faux wood blinds ... and they cut them right in the store to the size you want. Really?! Now we are talking! The price was right too!!!! For about $100.00 I changed the whole look of the room!
I did two singles and then made the center blind a long one that spans across the front.
Spoiler Alert! Look at the top of this picture ... I hadn't finished painting yet. That is for another post that will be coming soon.
Blinds are in and the Valance is back up (Thanks Mr. Man for helping!)!
But wait! What is that outside the window?
It is a pair of Mallard ducks who came to visit. According to my boss, they have a nest somewhere near.
I L.O.V.E. the new look of the blinds!
Hugs and thanks for stopping by,
Hi Bj! Looks terrific! SO much better than the shades!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of faux wood blinds for my bedroom too. The valance, rehung, on top really makes it a pretty setting. Your precious (I'm assuming you mean your granddaughter) must love that room when she stays over.
ReplyDeleteInstalling window blinds helps maintain the privacy of your home. It looks better now since the room isn't too exposed. All that is missing from your window is a love seat, and it would be the perfect place to relax and read a book, since it is a large window and allows a healthy amount of natural lighting.
